I am an Associate Professor of History at Howard University in Washington, DC. My research interrogates the multiple connections between African and global histories through the lens of material culture, technology, labor, gender and race. My work seeks to sharpen understandings to western Africa’s role in the history of global capitalism and its connections to contemporary questions of global inequality.
My research interests include decolonial methodologies, transnational collaboration, African Diaspora history, community-based and private archives, textiles and sartorial practice, material culture, community-engaged knowledge production, oral tradition, digital history and public history.
